The second definition highlights the problems of info overload and attention. This is perhaps implied in the first definition (third clause re environments). Personally, I think that this point regarding executive control of one's attention is primary (Not only phones but the entire digital work environment is a challenge). This surely connects to the 'meta' cognitive aspect - raising awareness of one's distraction or attentiveness. Regarding the ability to 'construct workflows', I suppose this implies first becoming meta-aware of traditional non-ai workflows / study environments / or "plan of attack" (pre-given test-taking strategies). In short, time is the finite resource that remains a constant. AI use does not 'save time' it simply redirects our resources to other stages of the workflow.
Gemini brought my attention to the distinction between capacity and ability, but this seemed less important to me than the issue regarding attention. I think this speaks to 'research taste'.
